About me

I was born in Tucson, AZ, spent most of my life in a small town in North Dakota, and later lived in Minnesota. I studied Creative Writing and Music at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. I wanted to be a physician after watching the movie Patch Adams, at age 8, and was fortunate to work with Patch Adams at his Gesundheit! Institute during my summers in college. While volunteering there, I supported his school for designing society and workshops for medical students on bedside manner. The experience profoundly affected my journey in medicine and emphasized the incredible importance of infusing humor and joy into medicine whenever possible. I met my husband during medical school, and we moved to his hometown of Bremerton, WA in 2020. We have started a family, and love getting to be outside year-round in this wonderful part of the country.

About my practice

I am an internal medicine doctor, meaning I specialize in managing chronic diseases in older adults, such as diabetes, shortness of breath, heart failure, liver disease, and bleeding disorders. It is an honor to partner with patients on their journey through life and I take this responsibility very seriously. I like to practice compassion, active listening, and collaborative practice with individuals. My areas of interest include reducing bias in medicine, seeking opportunities to improve mental health, seeing a patient as a whole person, and practicing as a Health at Every Size Physician. The practice is a new movement in medicine that considers holistic health to be on a continuum that varies with time and a patient's circumstance, body size, medical condition, and economic status. I also have a background in academic medicine and love teaching medical students, residents, and my patients about the pathophysiology of acute and chronic disease - especially of the heart, kidneys, pancreas, and lungs.

How I thrive

I enjoy going for walks with my husband and toddler in the forests and mountains. We love to watch funny movies and to play outside whenever possible. I am a self-taught watercolorist and attempt to capture the beauty of our surroundings through plein air painting and illustration. My family loves music, and I play ukulele, piano and sing whenever possible.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.

Search Tips

  • Can’t find your provider? Additional facilities can be found by searching under Locations.
  • Check your spelling.
  • Broaden your search by using fewer words or more general words.
  • Remove any location information from the search terms box.
  • Search by practitioner name (ex. ‘John Smith’ instead of ‘Steel City Chiropractic Group’).
  • Try searching by specialty.
