About me
Born and raised on Oahu, I come from a large part-Hawaiian family on my mother's side and a German-Italian family on my father's side. I’m grateful for my mixed heritage and value the rich cultural diversity of our islands.
I graduated from Kalaheo High School and went to the University of California, Davis for my undergraduate studies. I then came home and did a master’s in teaching at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I received my Doctor of Medicine from the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) and did my residency there.
My grandmother has inspired me throughout my life. Sheʻs the local "auntie" who makes everyone feel like family. One of my fondest memories is dancing hula with her on Saturday mornings. She always taught us to take care of the land and the people around us. She extends aloha to all, and I try to do the same in my clinical practice.
About my practice
My mother and my hula teachers encouraged me to find purpose and follow my passions. Prior to becoming a doctor, I found my passion for teaching while working as a middle school science teacher in Leeward Oahu. As a result, I saw how social barriers affected not only my studentsʻ education, but their overall health and wellness and the well-being of the community around them. This experience solidified my passion for medicine and my pathway to becoming a physician.
Part of my medical training involved working on Hawaii Island for six months. Through this experience I was able to better understand how geographic distance can increase health disparities. It also showed me the vital role that family physicians play in managing resources to meet patients’ needs and in encouraging preventive health.
My professional interests include indigenous medicine; womenʻs health; preventive medicine; complementary and alternative medicine; and medical education and teaching.
I’ve presented research findings at conferences locally and abroad on topics ranging from understanding cultural influences on reproductive health to seizures.
To keep my knowledge of medical research current, I’m a member of Ahahui o Na Kauka – the Association of Native Hawaiian Physicians, the Pacific Region Indigenous Doctors Congress, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
How I thrive
I try to maintain balance and fitness by crafting, dancing hula, hiking, diving/shell hunting, and exercising outdoors. I especially enjoy game nights with friends and spending time with my husband and our daughter. Born during the pandemic, our baby daughter has been a light during a dark time.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
