Update on Hurricane Lowell Impacts
Kaiser Permanente is closely monitoring the flooding and high winds caused by Hurricane Lowell. The safety of our patients, members, staff, and community remains our top priority.
Our Moanalua Medical Center, urgent care clinics, and most medical facilities remain open during their regular hours.
- Our Lihue Clinic, including its pharmacy, is CLOSED on the morning of September 8 due to severe weather impacts. We will continue monitoring conditions with the goal of safely reopening the Lihue Clinic at 1 p.m. Members whose appointments need to be rescheduled or adjusted will be contacted directly.
We will support members who would like to reschedule or convert appointments to a phone or video visit. For appointments, call 1-833-833-3333 (TTY 711), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or use one of our virtual care options at kp.org/getcare. For advice, call 1-833-833-3333 (TTY 711) 24/7.
We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. Mahalo for your patience and understanding.
Reminder: safeguard your health
It's important to take precautions to stay healthy if you or your family are in an area impacted by flooding. We recommend that you:
- Be aware of contaminants: Floodwater may contain sewage and chemicals that can cause sickness. Polluted drinking water can lead to outbreaks of deadly diseases like typhoid, hepatitis A, and cholera.
- Prevent injuries: Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters. Watch for sharp debris, fallen trees, downed power lines, and snakes and other biting animals.
- Stop mold growth: Dry your home and belongings within 24 to 48 hours after a flood if you can. Keep wet areas well-ventilated. Assume you have mold growth if your home or its contents are still wet after 2 days. Mold can affect indoor air quality and can cause coughing, wheezing, and lower respiratory tract infections like pneumonia.
- Prevent mosquito bites: Standing water may increase the hatching of mosquito eggs. Some mosquitos can spread viruses and diseases like Zika, malaria, dengue, and West Nile. Use insect repellents and take steps to control mosquitos inside and outside your home.
- Pay attention to your mental health: The stress brought on by a flooding event and its aftermath can lead to anxiety, depression, PTSD, and sleep disturbances. Stay connected with family and friends and seek professional support if symptoms become overwhelming or persist.
- If you would like medical advice, call our advice line at 1-833-833-3333 (TTY 711), 24/7. If you think you are having a medical or mental health emergency, call 911 for assistance.
