Dental Benefits

Preventive Dental Care Benefit

A preventive dental care benefit provided by Delta Dental of Washington is included on all individual Medicare Advantage plans for 2023. This benefit covers preventive and diagnostic services at no cost to you.

Covered services include:
  • Oral examination (maximum of 2 per calendar year)
  • Bitewing X-ray (maximum of 2 per calendar year)
  • Panoramic X-ray or complete series (maximum of once every 3 years)
  • Routine preventive teeth cleaning (maximum of 2 per calendar year)
  • Fluoride treatments (maximum of 2 per calendar year)

Services must be provided by a Delta Dental of Washington participating provider. To find a dentist, visit deltadentalwa.com, click “Find a Dentist,” and choose “Delta Dental PPO Plus Premier” as your network.

You will not receive a separate ID card or identification number for your dental benefits.

When you receive dental care, provide your Delta Dental network dentist with your Kaiser Permanente member ID number, which appears on your Kaiser Permanente member ID card.

Your dentist will submit your claims to Delta Dental on your behalf. Neither you nor your dentist should send any claims to Kaiser Permanente.

Get dental coverage and usage details, preventive care reminders, treatment costs, and more by registering your MySmile® account on deltadentalwa.com. If you have questions about your dental benefit usage and providers, call Delta Dental of Washington Customer Service at 1-877-719-4006 (TTY 711), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you have questions about your enrollment, premium, plan documents, or appeals, call Kaiser Permanente Member Services at 1-888-901-4600 (TTY 711), 7 days a week, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

If you enroll in the optional Delta Dental PPO Plus Premier plan, the preventive dental care coverage it provides replaces the preventive dental care benefits included in your Kaiser Permanente Medicare health plan.

Delta Dental PPO Plus Premier Plan

If you are enrolled in an Individual Medicare Advantage plan and have enrolled in this optional dental plan, please see your Evidence of Coverage for more information. Annual deductible: $100 (waived on preventive and diagnostic care). Annual benefit maximum for covered services: $1,500.

Preventive and diagnostic care: Covered at 100%, you pay $0:
  • Routine exams and cleanings (2 per calendar year)
  • Fluoride treatment (2 per calendar year)
  • Periodontal cleanings
  • Dental X-rays

Basic dental expenses: Covered at 80%, you pay 20%:

  • Fillings/posterior composite
  • Stainless steel crowns
  • Oral surgery
  • Endodontics (for example, root canal treatment)
  • Periodontics

Major expenses: Covered at 50%, you pay 50%:

  • Crowns, implants, and onlays
  • Dentures, bridges, and partials
  • Denture adjustments and relines

If you enroll in the optional supplemental dental benefit, the preventive dental care coverage it provides cannot be combined with the included preventive dental care benefit.

Find a dentist in the Delta Dental network

Sign in at deltadentalwa.com, click “Find a Dentist,” and select “Delta Dental PPO Plus Premier” as your network. (You can use this network for both the dental plan and the preventive dental benefit.)

If you use a dentist who is not a Delta Dental network dentist, your treatment will not be covered.

Create your online MySmile® account
Go to deltadentalwa.com and register your account. After you do, you can go online to get dental coverage details, preventive care reminders, treatment costs, and more.
Get your dental care covered

When you visit your Delta Dental network dentist, show them your Kaiser Permanente member ID card and tell them about your dental coverage with Delta Dental of Washington. Your dentist will submit your claims to Delta Dental on your behalf. Neither you nor your dentist should send any claims to Kaiser Permanente.

Coverage when you’re traveling
You’re covered for emergency and urgent care anywhere in the world. Plus, you can get nonemergency care across the United States at:
  • Kaiser Permanente facilities and affiliated providers in Washington, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
  • Any CVS MinuteClinic® or Concentra Urgent Care in states where there aren’t any Kaiser Permanente facilities [See footnote 4]

If you spend time in Arizona’s Pima or Maricopa counties, some of our Medicare Advantage plans include an Arizona travel benefit that covers routine care from select Banner Health providers. [See footnote 6]

Automatic prescription refill program
Save time by having routine, ongoing medications shipped to you before you run out. Your refills will arrive when you need them, and you won’t need to call Kaiser Permanente or log in. We’ll send a reminder via text message before completing your refill in case you need to make changes — and if you run out of refills, we’ll contact your doctor. Some exclusions apply. Over-the-Counter (OTC) Wellness Benefit

With this benefit, you can order non-prescription, health-related products from a catalog and have them delivered to your home at no cost to you. [See footnote 7]

Products include:
  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Allergy, cough, and cold remedies
  • Antacids, laxatives, and stomach aids
  • Pain relievers and fever reducers
  • First aid kits, joint supports, and incontinence products
  • Blood pressure monitors and thermometers
  • Diabetic supplies such as compression stockings and sharps containers

The over-the-counter benefit can only be used through the OTC catalog ordering process and cannot be used in a Kaiser Permanente or retail pharmacy.

Routine Transportation

This benefit gives you and a companion nonemergency rides within our Medicare Advantage service area to and from your doctor and dentist appointments and to in-network pharmacies. Depending on your Kaiser Permanente Medicare health plan, you can schedule at least 6 round-trip rides per year. [See footnote 8]

If you have mobility challenges, you’ll be assigned a vehicle based on your needs. Available options include van, sedan, wheelchair accessible, and Lyft and Uber vehicles.

Rides are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Scheduling a ride
Make sure to schedule your ride at least 2 business days in advance of your appointment and have the information below handy when you make the call:

  • Kaiser Permanente member ID number
  • First and last name
  • Pickup address including ZIP code
  • A mobile phone number or an alternate number that the transportation provider can call at the time of your pickup
  • Name, address, and ZIP code of the health care provider you want a ride to
  • Date and time of health care appointment
  • Special needs or requests (for example, need "door-to-door" service for sedated procedures, oversize wheelchair, no access to a mobile phone, etc.)

Preparing for your ride
  • You should receive a call from the transportation provider the day before your ride. If you don’t hear from the provider by 5 p.m., please call Access2Care at 1-877-828-4512 (TTY 711) to confirm a transportation provider was assigned for your ride. (Access2Care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.)
  • Generally, you’ll need to be ready for your ride an hour before your scheduled health care appointment.
