About me
I come from a family of physicians. My grandfather was a family practice physician in India, and he was my first role model. I spent my childhood in Detroit. I went to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for college, graduate school, medical school, and my neurosurgery residency. As a resident, I was heavily involved in developing formal regulations for training of U.S. resident physicians.
About my practice
I am privileged to help patients through some of the most difficult medical conditions. Neurosurgical conditions are very complex and the prospect of surgery can be daunting. I strive to help my patients understand their specific condition and their treatment options. When patients must undergo surgery, I am actively involved in their care from preoperative consultation and surgery through the recovery process. I value that Kaiser Permanente leverages a unified electronic medical record, physician collaboration, and a network of outstanding clinics and hospitals. As a surgeon, this infrastructure provides me with all of the tools and resources I need to provide the best patient care possible. I focus on the neurosurgical management of disorders of the spine and spinal cord, including degenerative conditions, and deformities and tumors of the spine and spinal cord. Restoring a patient to health from a neurological issue or intractable pain is the most satisfying aspect of my work.
How I thrive
Outside of my work, I balance a busy life of raising two young children with my wife. I became an avid cyclist when I moved to the Pacific Northwest, and I set the goal of completing one new long distance race each year. I enjoy hiking, exercise, cooking, reading, and travel. I believe a balanced life leads to health and a sense of well-being.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals
Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
