About me
I grew up in Del Mar, California. I moved to Seattle for medical and graduate school training at the University of Washington, where I also earned my PhD in epidemiology. I chose UW because the Epidemiology Department is one of the best in the world. My husband is from Sweden, and we have two daughters who are bilingual in Swedish and English. I went to medical school to pursue research, and discovered that I loved taking care of patients. Now I have the great joy of combining both clinical care and research in my career. Much of my work focuses on what medications are safest or most effective. I have had funding from the NIH and the FDA to support my research.
About my practice
I love the relationships I establish with my patients, and enjoy taking care of people over time. I like to bring comfort to people, even when we cannot cure the underlying illness. My role is to be a guide, advisor, and source of information. I spend a lot of time talking with my patients about what their choices are. I have a special interest in older adults and dementia care, and enjoy taking care of people with complex conditions. I am a general internist, and have special expertise taking care of older patients with multiple medical problems. In my clinic, I provide consultations for my colleagues whose patients are experiencing repeated falls or memory difficulties.
How I thrive
Many years ago, I climbed Mount Rainier. I love spending time outdoors, especially with my family. We are part of a vibrant Swedish-American community in Seattle, and my children attend Swedish cultural school every week. I bike to work most days. We eat mostly vegetarian - lots of fruit, vegetables, and legumes. I try to get enough sleep, because it's a big part of feeling good and being healthy.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals
Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
