About me
I spent my childhood and early adult years in Minneapolis and Salt Lake City where I developed a deep appreciation for nature. After graduating with a degree in psychology from Carleton College in Minnesota, I worked as a wilderness guide for two years in Southern Utah before returning to Minnesota to attend medical school. I am married to my best friend and we met in the southern Utah desert leading wilderness trips. We currently enjoy living in Seattle with our two wonderful children and accessing the amazing Northwest outdoors.
About my practice
In addition to being a busy family doctor, I'm also the medical center chief at the Family Health Center. The breadth and variety of family medicine invigorates me. My philosophy of care is centered on solid communication: making sure I'm clear about what my patients' desires, worries and needs are and helping folks navigate the increasingly complex health care system. In essence, I see myself as a trusted guide and collaborator in the areas of geriatrics, pediatrics, including newborn and adolescent care, LGBTQ care, women's health and HIV prevention and management. I'm currently a board member for Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility (WPSR) and feel very strongly about addressing the social determinants of health and climate change as it relates to health.
How I thrive
To stay healthy I make time for exercise every day. I bike to work year round, eat lots of veggies, enjoy music and try to be in the moment. Connecting with my wife and children is grounding. Being outdoors is also rejuvenating. Of late, I have increased my volunteer involvement in activities related to climate change and health disparities, recognizing that community involvement in these areas complements and rounds out the clinical work I do.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals
Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
