Where I practice
About me
I grew up in Kansas City; my parents and brothers still live there so I like to get back at least once each year. My wife works at Microsoft and we have two boys and two cats. I knew I wanted to be a physician since high school, and I chose ophthalmology because it combines my interests in vision, neurology and surgery. After completing my residency, I worked in private practice for several years, but I came to Kaiser Permanente in 2007 because the organizations model of care espouses my personal beliefs about healthcare in the U.S. My years here have allowed me to grow in knowledge and skill, and now I cant imagine practicing anywhere else. In addition to my practice here, I help train residents at the University of Washington and I have traveled to Ethiopia to teach and perform surgeries with other physicians through the Himalayan Cataract Project.
About my practice
I strive to treat my patients the way I would want to be treated; I explain issues thoroughly, discuss options, and work with each patient to do what is best for their eyes. I enjoy being able to preserve vision and help my patients see better. It is an honor to have their trust, and I appreciate it every day. I specialize in comprehensive ophthalmology, including cataracts, medical retina and eyelid disorders, and other ophthalmic diseases.
How I thrive
With two active boys, my wife and I spend a lot of time at sporting events, theater performances, and other fun activities. We enjoy taking family trips around the U.S. and the world. To stay healthy, I make sure I get enough sleep and try to exercise outdoors when I can, especially by hiking, biking, and skiing. I also like to cook and have a small garden to help me make interesting meals.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals
Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
Search Tips
- Can’t find your provider? Additional facilities can be found by searching under Locations.
- Check your spelling.
- Broaden your search by using fewer words or more general words.
- Remove any location information from the search terms box.
- Search by practitioner name (ex. ‘John Smith’ instead of ‘Steel City Chiropractic Group’).
- Try searching by specialty.
