About me

I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Early in my education, I became very interested in medicine, physiology, and psychology. I volunteered with a crisis hotline, and it was a formative experience. This led me to medical school and residency training, both in Kalamazoo. I moved to the Pacific Northwest for more training. I was drawn to practice at Kaiser Permanente because it has a great reputation with both medical staff and patients. I was impressed with the excellent patient care and how well they treat the doctors.

About my practice

Mental health is one of the most difficult and sensitive things that people deal with. I enjoy being a professional who is able to help. I use a whole person approach to care that includes the physical, mental, social, and spiritual issues that are important to our health. I take pride in getting to know my patients and developing a trusting relationship that helps them grow and get better over time. While medications can be helpful, I try to minimize them whenever possible. Instead, I emphasize other areas of treatment like diet, exercise, psychotherapy, and other modifiable environmental factors. I have expertise in treating adults 18 years and older with mood, anxiety, trauma-related, psychotic, and personality disorders. My other areas of interest include collaborative care, integrative care, young adult psychiatry, perinatal psychiatry, under-served community care, LGBTQ care, chronic pain, and functional neurological disorders.

How I thrive

I try to build and maintain healthy habits like running, strength training, and meditation. I also practice moderation with food and alcohol. Scheduling downtime to watch movies, TV, and to read good books are other ways I practice self-care.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.

Search Tips

  • Can’t find your provider? Additional facilities can be found by searching under Locations.
  • Check your spelling.
  • Broaden your search by using fewer words or more general words.
  • Remove any location information from the search terms box.
  • Search by practitioner name (ex. ‘John Smith’ instead of ‘Steel City Chiropractic Group’).
  • Try searching by specialty.
