About me
I grew up in South Dakota, and completed my education there. After my military service, I moved to Olympia to be closer to my parents and siblings. I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we have one daughter, two sons, and no pets, unless you count little brothers. I appreciate personal relationships, and nothing is more personal than our health. With my interest in science and technology, medicine seemed like the most obvious career choice for me. I am a veteran physician on active duty, and have had the privilege of being deployed on a humanitarian medical mission to West Africa.
About my practice
My philosophy of care is to partner with my patients, and assist them in their medical decision making. I try to remove the power gap that has existed in the patriarchal culture of medicine. I see this culture changing, and am proud to be a part of it. I take special interest in women's health and LGBTQ care, and appreciate seeing both genders of all ages. I enjoy long-term relationships with multiple members of a family, and the bond that is formed between a doctor and patient while navigating health issues. It's gratifying to empower a patient with knowledge, and see them thrive.
How I thrive
I stay mentally and physically healthy by staying involved with my family, and by building a presence in my new community through volunteer work and advocacy. My kids are involved in martial arts and various youth sports, and I try to participate as much as possible. We like to bike and kayak together as a family, and want to see more sporting events throughout the season. For quiet time, I like to read, knit, crochet, and binge-watch nature shows and cooking competition shows with my kids.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals
Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
