About me
I grew up in the South Sound, and after leaving to attend college and graduate school, I returned to the Northwest, an area I love. I serendipitously met my husband while working at a birth center on the Texas/Mexico border. We have been married for over two decades and have two teenage children. When I was in college, I heard a talk about childbirth in America and realized that midwifery encompassed the things I was passionate about: science, psychology, spirituality, preventive healthcare, and the empowerment of women through knowledge. I joined Kaiser Permanente after becoming disenchanted with the fee-for-service model of care. I love the collaboration between specialties within this organization, and I have been able to grow and learn while practicing here. I am also clinical faculty at the Seattle University and University of Washington midwifery programs, and in 2015, I was honored to be a recipient of preceptor of the year from our national organization.
About my practice
My goal is to provide clear information about each patients healthcare choices so that she can feel confident in making decisions about childbirth. I strive to understand each patients perspective, beliefs, and life experience in order to individualize her care. I am energized by the variety in my work, the privilege of helping patients to better understand their own health, and the joy of accompanying families through the birth process. My practice includes patients health, birth control, maternity care, Centering Pregnancy, and STD diagnosis and treatment, and I am especially interested in serving teens as well as members in midlife and older patients.
How I thrive
I enjoy hiking, swimming, and Latin dancing, and I love participating in activities with my family, especially skiing in the winter and backpacking in the summer. To relax, I like to read, travel, cook from different cuisines, and garden. My husband and I have also enjoyed taking dance lessons for several years. I try to exercise almost every day, as it keeps me healthy and positive, and I practice meditation when I can.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals
Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
