About me

I was born and raised in Houston. Growing up, I was fascinated by science. My interest in medicine was sparked by a cancer symposium during my sophomore year of high school. Combining my love of science, helping others, and teaching, led me to pursue medicine as a career. Initially I wanted to be an oncologist, but I changed my mind many times. I decided on gastroenterology because it lets me form long-lasting relationships with my patients and it gives me the opportunity to perform many types of procedures to help them. I met my wife during residency training in Baltimore. My wife is from Seattle, and we are happy to make our home here with our lively little boy. I chose to join Kaiser Permanente because of the patient-centered approach to care. Being able to spend the time I need to care for my patients is invaluable.

About my practice

My areas of interest and expertise include advanced therapeutic endoscopy, pancreaticobiliary disease, luminal stenting, and endoscopic suturing. Communication is the most important part of patient care. I strive to listen closely to my patients' needs and to educate them about their illness and treatment. It's important that we work together as a team to combat their illness. I love the diversity and complexity that gastroenterology offers. Being able to manage 7 different organs with a wide variety of medications and procedures is amazing. Most of all, I enjoy educating trainees, colleagues, and patients.

How I thrive

Playing with my son helps me recharge for the next day. Eating well with home-cooked meals helps keep me healthy. We love traveling the world -- Taiwan is our favorite place to visit. Playing the cello and piano and composing music are other ways I like to stay motivated and inspired. I also like to play board games with friends.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.

Search Tips

  • Can’t find your provider? Additional facilities can be found by searching under Locations.
  • Check your spelling.
  • Broaden your search by using fewer words or more general words.
  • Remove any location information from the search terms box.
  • Search by practitioner name (ex. ‘John Smith’ instead of ‘Steel City Chiropractic Group’).
  • Try searching by specialty.
