About me

I've called Western Washington my home since 1984 although I grew up in Massachusetts. Working in sports medicine, transgender and LGBTQ care, and helping people of all ages, I've practiced in mainstream medical clinics, low-income clinics and public health clinics. I helped pass the Clean Indoor Air Act that made all public indoor places in Washington State smoke-free by sponsoring and gathering 10,000 voter signatures in association with the Lung Association and Cancer Society. As a member of the Climate Change Task Force of Physicians for Social Responsibility, I am dedicated to addressing the health dangers of climate change.

About my practice

As a family doctor, I enjoy long-term relationships with patients and their families. I treat my patients the way I'd like to be treated, and I carefully listen for the story behind the symptoms. My practice allows me to help people through emotional crises, while also treating chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity. I can help patients with minor surgeries, skin procedures, steroid injections, trigger-point injections, and herbal and natural solutions. I love helping people find their own motivations to take care of their health and achieve a healthy weight. My favorite days are when I can turn to a patient and congratulate them on their great efforts of eating right and exercising to improve their lives. One of the things I like most about working here is that I feel empowered to do the best thing for my patients and I encourage each person to strive for better health.

How I thrive

At home, I like bicycling, walking with my wife, boomerang throwing, singing and playing guitar with our church choir, and hearing our daughter play saxophone in her bands. I enjoy travel to Europe, El Salvador, Vancouver, Victoria, and Portland. I also like to go to New York City and to visit my family in Massachusetts.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.

Search Tips

  • Can’t find your provider? Additional facilities can be found by searching under Locations.
  • Check your spelling.
  • Broaden your search by using fewer words or more general words.
  • Remove any location information from the search terms box.
  • Search by practitioner name (ex. ‘John Smith’ instead of ‘Steel City Chiropractic Group’).
  • Try searching by specialty.
