About me

I grew up in California. After finishing college in Berkeley, California, medical school in St. Louis, Missouri, and residency in Los Angeles, California, I migrated up the west coast and ultimately ended up in Olympia, Washington. I now consider the Pacific Northwest my home. I am married with three children, two cats, and a dog. My father, a Chinese herbalist, was also a chiropractor. He often made house calls and would frequently bring me along. As a child, I was impressed with the positive and lasting impact he had on his patients. It is my hope that I too can enrich people's lives through medicine.

About my practice

I practice both in the hospital and clinic. I have supervised clinics for patients with chronic pain and congestive heart failure. I am currently the Assistant Physician in Chief over specialty services. With the transition to Kaiser Permanente I now have the resources, as well as the philosophical backing to provide true holistic care to my patients. I believe strongly that a patient's wellness is dependent on a delicate balance between the spirit and the body. A spirit in distress manifests as a body in distress and vice versa. Only by addressing both aspects can someone live life to the fullest.

How I thrive

I love to travel. London is my favorite city in the world because of the great museums and theatre. To date, one of my favorite experiences in life was doing a rotation as a medical student in the countryside of Central America. The beauty and peacefulness of the country, combined with the gentleness and appreciation of the people gave me a unique perspective on the meaning of life. My greatest joy and nourishment however, come from my family. They have the power to rejuvenate (but sometimes drain!) me. I also practice meditation and mindfulness, which helps ground me. My hobbies include fly fishing, the practice of Bonsai, and learning about history and philosophy

How we choose our network providers and hospitals

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.

Search Tips

  • Can’t find your provider? Additional facilities can be found by searching under Locations.
  • Check your spelling.
  • Broaden your search by using fewer words or more general words.
  • Remove any location information from the search terms box.
  • Search by practitioner name (ex. ‘John Smith’ instead of ‘Steel City Chiropractic Group’).
  • Try searching by specialty.
