About me

I was born and grew up in Tacoma, Washington. I earned a master's in education at the University of Washington Tacoma, and I taught high school physics locally while my wife served in the U.S. Army. I love to learn and teach, but always had the goal to become a physician. My father was a health care provider in Tacoma, and the positive impact he had on people's lives inspired me to go into medicine. I completed my medical school training in Texas, then returned to the Pacific Northwest to be close to family and additional training in rehabilitation medicine and interventional pain management. I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart. We have an exuberant son and are expecting a second. I joined Kaiser Permanente because of the excellent experience I had as a patient. Getting the care my family and I needed was easy, affordable, and focused on health promotion. As a provider, I have access to the best resources in the area that allow me to provide excellent, high-quality, patient-centered care.

About my practice

I want each patient to know they're the most important person in the clinic, and I want them to feel empowered in their care. As a rehabilitation medicine doctor, I specialize in caring for patients who've suffered traumatic events or who have lost physical function due to illness. Injury and pain can interfere with our relationships, employment, responsibilities, and happiness. It gives me great joy to help patients return to the things they love. It's such a privilege to be a partner in their journey.

How I thrive

I love being physically active, especially by hiking, kayaking, running, and skiing. I try to follow the advice I give to my patients: Eat plenty of vegetables, get good sleep, and exercise regularly. I also aim to be kind to myself and others, spend time in nature, and always be learning. Finding a lot of humor is also important.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.

Search Tips

  • Can’t find your provider? Additional facilities can be found by searching under Locations.
  • Check your spelling.
  • Broaden your search by using fewer words or more general words.
  • Remove any location information from the search terms box.
  • Search by practitioner name (ex. ‘John Smith’ instead of ‘Steel City Chiropractic Group’).
  • Try searching by specialty.
