About me
I was born in Northern California, and lived in Virginia, Arizona, and Missouri before settling in the Pacific Northwest. I chose the field of medicine because I was inspired by the great effect of preventive medicine on population health. Through direct outreach to the underserved communities in the California Central Valley, I witnessed changes that improved clinical outcomes and inspired me to get involved. I particularly like teaching, and feel rewarded when my patients and their parents learn something they can apply to their lives in a positive way.
About my practice
My general philosophy is that of Benjamin Franklin, An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Preventive health has been linked to the most successful outcomes in history, from fluoride in the water to prevent cavities to polio vaccines to prevent paralysis in children. The vast majority of medical advice comes from science, so my suggestions are based on real outcomes from real studies. However, medicine is an art, and I hope to give parents the best information to make the best decisions. My areas of specialty are obesity, infectious disease, dermatology, population health, and disease prevention. I joined Kaiser Permanente because it supports its clinicians by providing excellent care in a well-rounded clinical environment with lab, X-ray, and therapy options in the same building.
How I thrive
I play tennis and soccer, run, and cycle, and practiced martial arts for many years. I enjoy collectible card games and fantasy novels. I am a big Seahawks fan, and have been since long before they were Super Bowl champions. My family keeps me busy with football parties, museum-hopping, and crafts.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals
Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
