About me

I was born in Brooklyn. I spent my educational years in the New York and Boston area and graduated with honors from Harvard University and Emory University School of Medicine. I came to Seattle for my medical residency training at the University of Washington. I'd planned on living in Washington only for training and had lined up a gastroenterology fellowship at Yale, but I loved the Seattle area, so I continued at University of Washington on a fellowship there. I'm married to a wonderful life partner have three fine daughters.

About my practice

I decided on medicine during college, feeling it suited my personality, talents, and desire to work on doing something important for others. I've spent my entire career at this organization. It's been very satisfying because it puts patient wellbeing at the top of our priority list and gives providers the time to interact and coordinate care. I enjoy my relationships with patients and strive to always provide them with scientifically accurate and current diagnostic and treatment suggestions. I want my interactions with patients to be compassionate. I listen to their concerns and try to provide explanations that will enable them to make decisions that are informed and fit their individual needs. Much of my focus is on colon cancer screening and functional bowel disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome.

How I thrive

My goal is to balance work and family time. As a volunteer, I use teach doctors about health law - I have a J.D. degree and I'm licensed to practice law. I also publish articles for our national organizations, and I'm on the Board of Governors for the American College of Gastroenterology representing the state of Washington. Other activities include kayaking, swimming, hiking, reading, and keeping abreast of the news.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.

Search Tips

  • Can’t find your provider? Additional facilities can be found by searching under Locations.
  • Check your spelling.
  • Broaden your search by using fewer words or more general words.
  • Remove any location information from the search terms box.
  • Search by practitioner name (ex. ‘John Smith’ instead of ‘Steel City Chiropractic Group’).
  • Try searching by specialty.
