About me
I had fairly severe asthma as a child, which gave me a lot of contact with the medical system and a desire to help kids like me. I did well academically across many subjects with a particular talent in biology. I worked as an amateur science and medical journalist during school, including a year as the science editor at my college's independent student daily newspaper. I grew up on the East Coast, moved to Seattle to complete my residency, and now consider this area my home.
About my practice
I seek to make patients engaged partners in their health. I want them to help them understand medical evidence and resources' stewardship in relation to their own values and preferences. Through shared knowledge and compassion, I hope to guide patients to thoughtful decisions that lead them to optimal health. I deeply believe in the model of integrated care and coverage that can provide the most efficient and effective path to health for all people. My clinical work has been focused on acute-care general medicine for 17 years. I continue to work as a hospitalist, although my main job is in leadership. I love the complexity involved in intellectual challenges and human interactions, and their interface with complex systems and technology.
How I thrive
I'm married with two sons, two cats and an awesome Eskipoo dog. We are very close as a family. My wife and I love international travel and hope to plan a couple big trips with our kids. Currently, we like to travel with other families, which often includes camping, rustic lodging and a bit of urban luxury. I like running, cooking, cocktails, cross country skiing, hiking and family time. I focus on mindfulness as a governing principle and work to get short periods of meditation in my regular week.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals
Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
Search Tips
- Can’t find your provider? Additional facilities can be found by searching under Locations.
- Check your spelling.
- Broaden your search by using fewer words or more general words.
- Remove any location information from the search terms box.
- Search by practitioner name (ex. ‘John Smith’ instead of ‘Steel City Chiropractic Group’).
- Try searching by specialty.
