Medication disposal program

Kaiser Permanente is participating in Washington state's Safe Medication Return Program to encourage responsible disposal of unwanted medicines. These convenient, safe, and secure disposal kiosks are open to anyone in the community.

All unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medicines can be disposed of in the kiosks. Be sure to mark out any personal information on the bottle, tube, or container the medication is in. Other pharmacy-related items that can be discarded include:

  •  Over-the-counter medications and vitamins
  •  Ointments
  • Syrups
  • Prescription patches
  • Inhalers
  • Aerosols
  • EpiPen delivery systems or other retractable-type devices
  • Pet medications

The kiosks do not accept needles, syringes, lancets, illegal drugs, or non-pharmaceutical items (such as hydrogen peroxide or thermometers).

These kiosks are available at all Kaiser Permanente pharmacy locations during pharmacy hours.

All Kaiser Permanente pharmacy locations also offer Seal & Send Away mailers to our patients. These envelopes are available at the pharmacy free of charge. Simply request a postage paid and pre-addressed envelope and drop it into any USPS mailbox when convenient. Unwanted drugs will be properly disposed of at no cost to you. For other authorized locations also participating in Washington state’s Safe Medication Return Program, please visit takebackyourmeds.org*.

*Aerosol cans and inhalers are not accepted in mailers due to US Dept. of Transportation (DOT) regulation.
