About Me

I was born and raised in the Chicago area and earned my undergraduate degree at nearby Northwestern University. Since then, I've lived in and explored numerous metropolises, including New York, Mexico City, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, but when I landed in Hawaii, I knew that I was finally home. Hawaii Permanente Medical Group is my ohana.

About my practice

Every patient interaction reminds me of how expansive and diverse we are as human beings, and how extraordinary the human condition is.

I'm committed to serving some of our most vulnerable populations, including the transgender and gender non-conforming communities. I make it my responsibility to ensure safe passage along their gender-affirmation journey. As a certified HIV specialist, I’m inspired and encouraged to witness what was once a terminal illness evolve into a manageable condition.

I’m passionate about providing LGBTQ health education to colleagues and future medical providers throughout Hawaii. I received an Alumnus of the Year award for my contributions to the LGBTQ community from Loma Linda University, where I serve as a visiting associate professor. I’m professionally affiliated with the American Academy of PAs, Hawaii Academy of PAs, American Academy of HIV Medicine, and the World Path Association for Transgender Health. I participate in continuing medical education activities geared toward better understanding the burgeoning field of gender medicine and I seek out research that is dedicated to treatment strategies directed at eradicating HIV transmission. I routinely speak at medical conferences and perform grand rounds presentations on topics including HIV medicine and gender health.

I proudly joined the HPMG ohana because our providers collaborate to deliver culturally responsive and inclusive patient care. This is central to my personal practice. Genuine listening allows me to connect with my patients on a deeper level and share their journeys with them. Through this bond, I empower them to meet their everyday challenges and strive for well-balanced healthy lives.

How I thrive

Tennis is my sport – it keeps me sharp. The ocean is my sanctuary – it inspires me. Time best spent for me is when I’m wrestling around with my two favorite Wheaten Terriers: Finnegan O'Riley and Dugan McDermott.
