Your developing baby – week 7

Fetus at week 7, illustration

By the time you're 7 weeks pregnant, your baby's:

  • Elbows and toes can be seen
  • Digestive tract and lungs are developing
  • Hands and feet are developing but look like paddles
  • Brain cells are rapidly being produced

Your baby’s face is also starting to develop. The outline of nostrils, eyes, ears, and a mouth becomes clearer.

Your baby has doubled in size since last week and is now about the size of a blueberry (around a half-inch long).

The umbilical cord that links you to your baby throughout pregnancy fully forms during this week. The umbilical cord:

  • Supplies oxygen and nutrients to your baby
  • Removes your baby’s waste matter
