Depression care guide

Depression is a real — and common — medical condition that can affect your mind, body and spirit. It isn't always easy to tell the difference, but depression has certain symptoms that are distinct from the "blues," which everyone gets from time to time. With proper treatment, most people with depression feel better and enjoy life more.

Check your symptoms with our short self-assessment to find out if you might be depressed.

When you're done, we'll guide you through your care options.

Keep in mind that this assessment is not meant to give you a diagnosis — only a doctor or mental health professional can do that. But it can help guide you to appropriate care and resources based on your answers.

Important: Severe depression may be a psychiatric emergency if your responses indicate a possibility that you may harm yourself.

If you think you or someone you’re caring for is having a medical or psychiatric emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital. Do not attempt to access emergency care through this website.
