About me

I was born and raised in Kaimuki, Hawaii, and graduated from Iolani High School. I am married with two great kids and a great dog.

I attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine and had the opportunity to travel and train in Alaska, Montana, and Washington. I completed my family medicine residency in Sacramento, and a sports medicine fellowship at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center in Fontana, California.

About my practice

I’ve had an interest in science since my formative years, and have been inspired in my career path by the exceptional peers, mentors and patients I have had the privilege to spend time with. Seeing those in my community happy, healthy and thriving led me down the path of medicine.

Growing up in Hawaii, I have always had an interest in health and fitness. Though I was not personally blessed with natural athletic talent, I greatly enjoy sports participation and being a sports fan. It is very exciting to work in a field that blends my interest in athletic medicine and the promotion of total body wellness at the individual and community levels.

When it comes to health, the basics matter. Engaging in regular exercise is vital for the health of all adults and children, as is a healthy diet. Our lifestyle choices have a tremendous impact on our ability to achieve and maintain health. My role is to support our members in achieving their personal health and life goals, and to safely return them to their activities when injury or illness limits them.

At the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, our integrated care model and dynamic electronic medical record are huge assets in providing effective and efficient care. Working alongside our comprehensive group of talented, dedicated and energetic providers is inspiring. I am proud to be a member of the team.

I am a founder of the Kaiser Permanente Sports Medicine Clinic. I am an assistant clinical professor at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, and a clinical preceptor for the University of Hawaii Graduate Athletic Training Program. For the Kaiser Permanente Great Aloha Run, I am the medical director. I also serve on the Kaiser Permanente Hawaii Regional Concussion Task Force, and I am a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

How I thrive

I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling, and staying active, whether surfing, bodyboarding, weightlifting, running, or participating in triathlons. You’ve got to practice what you preach!
