Where I practice
I was born and raised in Denver and am a board-certified internal medicine specialist who practices hospital medicine for Kaiser Permanente at Memorial North and Memorial Central in Colorado Springs. I attended college at the University of Colorado in Boulder. I then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where I attended medical school at Emory University School of Medicine. I returned to Colorado for residency in Denver and then began my career with Kaiser Permanente as a hospitalist. I have been a hospitalist for Kaiser Permanente for more than 20 years. While in Denver I served as the regional department chief of Hospital Medicine. I later moved back to Georgia and was a Kaiser Permanente hospitalist in Atlanta at Northside Hospital for 14 years. There, along with my clinical duties, I was the chief of Quality Improvement for the Northside Hospital System. I greatly missed the west and the mountains, so my family and I returned to Colorado in 2016.
About my practice
I have been a hospitalist for more than 20 years. I try to provide as much information as I can to help empower my patients to make the best decisions for themselves. I coordinate specialty care and make sure my patients and their families understand the diagnosis and treatment options. I consider myself a primary care physician in the inpatient world. I work closely with my patients and their outpatient primary care providers upon discharge to coordinate follow-up care so that they can prevent future hospitalizations and complications. I personally follow up with all my patients to be sure they are doing well after discharge. When I take care of someone in the hospital, I feel responsible for their wellness. I am available to help guide them and help them navigate the medical system. As long as my patients go home feeling better, I feel successful. My patients know I am very interested in them and am motivated to get them well. I have a passion for taking care of people. I love hospital medicine because I can see patients multiple times throughout the day or spend as much time as I feel necessary to take care of someone.
How I Thrive
I love skiing, cycling and hiking. I enjoy traveling and I read at least a book a week for pleasure. I am happiest in the mountains with my family. I have 2 sons and I am married to a pediatrician who also works for Kaiser Permanente.
