About me

Welcome to my Web page. I’m a noninvasive cardiologist, specializing in cardiovascular health and prevention. I have a special interest and expertise in heart disease prevention, noninvasive cardiac imaging, adults with congenital heart disease, and the treatment of heart failure, but my practice encompasses all aspects of cardiology.

I grew up in a small beach town in New Jersey where all types of water activities were a big part of life. I missed my connection to the sea during college, medical school, and postgraduate training in large East Coast cities. So naturally, I was drawn to California's glorious coastal environment. After my training, I moved to San Diego and joined the faculty of the UC San Diego School of Medicine as an assistant clinical professor in the cardiology division. After five years at UC San Diego, I moved on to join Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, but I’ve maintained my relationship with the university as a professor of medicine. I’m currently chief of the Internal Medicine Department at Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center, as well as the head of both the echocardiography lab and the adult congenital heart disease clinic. I am committed to high-quality, service-oriented medicine.

About my practice

Cardiology is a very dynamic, complex field that requires constant education in new therapies and techniques. While I practice cardiology and am devoted to helping people feel better and live longer, I never lose sight of the fact that this is all about the member—a person who is usually frightened and concerned about a problem with their heart. My practice is a mixture of high-tech medicine and old-school patient-doctor bonding. I consider the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—and strive to connect on a human level. It's the right thing to do, and it's good medicine.

How I thrive

I’m an outdoor enthusiast, regularly engaging in spear fishing, free diving, SCUBA diving, bow hunting, shot gunning, surfing, motorcycling, and fitness training. I'm a voracious reader, an occasional writer, and a saxophone player. These activities keep me balanced and enable me to maintain a very high energy level for my members, my work, and my family. I share my life and travels with a beautiful and talented wife, and equally wonderful twin daughters.
