Where I practice
Hello, and welcome to my Web page.
I grew up in Chicago, where I attended college and medical school. I did my surgical training in New York. After moving to San Diego to fulfill an obligation to the United States Navy, I joined Kaiser Permanente. I’ve been married to my lovely wife—a Kaiser Permanente obstetrician—for over 30 years. We are blessed with two beautiful and gifted children.
About my practice
I specialize in minimally invasive surgery of the organs of the abdomen, with a special focus on gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatal hernias, and surgery of the adrenal glands. Over 20 years ago, my colleagues and I developed surgical techniques that result in significantly less pain and suffering, and a quicker return to health. Through courses developed and taught here by our team, many surgeons have been able to bring the benefits of minimally invasive surgery to their communities. Our work has resulted in numerous publications and national television exposure.
How I thrive
I’m an avid cyclist, having organized and led a team in the 2003 Race Across America—a transcontinental, nonstop bicycle race that covers 2,993 miles—in six days, five hours, and seven minutes. I’m a part-time professional photographer, specializing in sports photography and action portraiture. I’m a voracious reader, a published freelance writer, and a passionate—though perennially amateur—blues guitarist. I love driving fast cars. I also happily struggle at golf as often as possible.
