Where I practice
Welcome! I’m a partner in the Southern California Permanente Medical Group and work as an emergency physician at the Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center. I appreciate the opportunity to tell you a bit about my work and about myself.
I grew up in San Diego and graduated from Point Loma High School. I attended UC San Diego and graduated from UC Davis with a degree in biochemistry in 1985. I worked as a research molecular biologist for five years prior to returning to school to pursue a medical degree. Early on in medical school, I grew to love the Emergency Department—the complexity of cases, the high acuity, and the quick thinking necessary to thrive in such an environment. More than any other specialty in medicine, teamwork is vital in the Emergency Department—and that turned out to be a good fit for me. I decided on a career in emergency medicine, and now I enjoy my work more than ever.
About my practice
I work in a very busy Emergency Department serving nearly 500,000 members. The pace and chaos can be stressful, but I’m blessed with an outstanding group of partners with whom to practice. We come from the most competitive emergency medicine residency training programs and have a dedicated staff of nurses and support personnel who are uniformly dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to members who are often at their most vulnerable. I’m also part of the faculty for our recently established emergency medicine residency program.
How I thrive
Outside of work, I’m blessed with a wonderful family. I enjoy skiing and water sports, and I practice yoga regularly. Regular exercise allows me to be healthy in both body and spirit, and to excel under the often-rigorous demands of emergency medicine. I also enjoy playing the piano and cooking. I consider it an honor and privilege to be an emergency physician.
