Hello, and welcome to my Web page. My name is Simon Tanksley. I am a family medicine physician and I practice urgent care medicine. I thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself to you and I look forward to working together with you to care for your health.
I was born in Sacramento (in a Kaiser Permanente hospital!) but I grew up on a small farm in central New York. I went to Cornell University for my undergraduate studies, and completed my medical degree at Stony Brook University School of Medicine in Long Island. I completed my family medicine residency training at Palmetto Heath with the University of South Carolina, and then went on to pursue fellowship training in urgent care medicine at University Hospitals with Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. I met my wife during medical school and she is now practicing pediatric hematology oncology at UCSD Rady Children's Hospital. We very much enjoy San Diego and are happy to be making it our home.
I am dedicated to the specialty of urgent care medicine and enjoy performing small in-office procedures such as suturing and incision and drainage. Being able to serve a diverse population of patients continues to be a very satisfying experience. I enjoy learning about different cultures in this increasingly global society and can speak basic Spanish.
Through weathering challenges and being a lifetime earner, I continue to evolve as an individual and a physician. By maintaining a balanced home life, I am able to be the best provider for my patients. When not working, I love spending time outdoors with my family, hiking with our dog, mountain biking, weight lifting and practicing mindfulness. I especially enjoy travel, for both pleasure an for medical missions. I have been to 34 countries so far and look forward to experiencing many more!
