Welcome to my Web page. The Santa Clarita Valley is a growing area and a wonderful place to live and work. The need for more comprehensive eye care in this region became apparent to me, and in 2004 I agreed to move from my 20-year practice at Kaiser Permanente in Panorama City to start an ophthalmologic medical and surgical practice here at Tourney Medical Offices. The practice has been growing ever since. I joined a delightful group of primary care physicians and a growing team of subspecialists.
After more than 20 years as a practicing ophthalmologist, I cannot think of a better way to spend my life. Vision is precious. To be able to preserve or give back vision has felt like a gift to me. My practice is general ophthalmology with a concentration in cataract surgery. I travel on my vacation to other parts of the world to donate my time and expertise in eye care, including cataract/intraocular lens placement surgery for those less fortunate. My travels have taken me to Tibet, China, India, Nepal, Thailand, Mexico, and the Philippines. In the process, I have become interested in languages and speak Spanish, a little French, Dutch, Amdo, Tibetan, and Farsi.
I am fortunate to be able to call on all the other ophthalmology subspecialists in our department to assist in your eye care. We have a responsive team of optometrists at Santa Clarita to help coordinate your eye care, including postsurgery refractions. We're here to do our best for you. We like taking care of your vision but also want to hear about your concerns and joys. The day is not complete without hearing about your accomplishments, family, travels, and other news; I am frequently reminded by my patients of things I've told them about my own children. I've seen my patients have children who become my patients. My practice often feels like a family.
Like most of us, I thrive on my work. And, like most of us, I could take better care of my health. I understand how hard it is to stick to the things that keep us healthy, like exercise (which for me is spin cycling and hiking), eating healthfully and not too much, and just sometimes taking a deep breath and keeping the spirit. We're on this road of life together. It's a much more delightful journey when we help one another! I look forward to meeting you and being part of your health plan.
