Where I practice
Hello, and thank you for visiting my Web page. I hope you will find it informative and useful. I feel very fortunate to work with an outstanding group of ophthalmologists and support staff that assists me in my goal of providing high-quality care.
I first came to San Diego in 1983 when the Navy sent me to Balboa Naval Hospital to do my internship after I graduated from Duke University School of Medicine. I thought I’d spend a few years in paradise before gravitating back to the East Coast, but I never left! After serving a full 20-year career in the Navy, I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2003.
About my practice
I am a retina specialist, which means that in addition to having completed a three-year residency in ophthalmology, I also spent two additional years at Johns Hopkins University learning to take care of conditions that affect the retina, such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachments. I work very closely with my fellow ophthalmologists to provide a team approach in delivering eye care and expertise to our patients. While I am also involved with teaching, conducting clinical research, and administrative responsibilities in addition to my clinical practice, it is the day-to-day interactions with patients that I enjoy more than anything else. The most important thing I strive to achieve in delivering care to my patients is to interact with them the same way I would want to be treated myself.
How I thrive
I thrive by always balancing the work I love to do with the family I love to be with. We enjoy outdoor family activities like hiking and playing tennis.
