About me

Hello, and thank you for visiting my Web page. Welcome to the Kaiser Permanente’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery ! It is an honor to be your doctor, and it is my hope that we can work together to improve your quality of life and alleviate your pain.

Biography

I was born in the Bay Area and grew up in the small town of Danville. I studied at UCSD for college and medical school, and Kansas City for residency. I then completed my fellowship training at the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles before returning to the San Diego area to join Kaiser Permanente. Despite my small-town upbringing, extensive international travel throughout my growing years brought opportunities for unique learning experiences and expanded my worldview. It has shaped my character and contributed to my understanding of patients from all walks of life. Being multilingual and understanding others’ cultures has taught me how better to empathize with patients and to create a more trusting doctor-patient relationship. Having realized my dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon, I am dedicated to serving my patients, with the goal of improving their quality of life. I am fortunate to have learned from world-famous experts in the most modern and evidence-based surgical techniques.

About my practice

I am a proud member of the Sports Medicine Team in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Kaiser Permanente San Marcos Medical Offices. As a specialist in shoulder and elbow surgery, I bring skills focusing on minimally-invasive approaches such as arthroscopy for complex shoulder and elbow conditions, as well as well-practiced techniques in arthroplasty, fracture care, and other reconstruction techniques. I also treat a broad range of general orthopedic conditions and sports injuries of both the upper and lower extremities. Lastly, I am a faculty member of Kaiser Permanente’s nationally accredited sports medicine fellowship training program.

How I thrive

I believe that mental and physical activities are essential to maintaining wellness in life. Outside of the hospital, I can be found practicing kendo, surfing, scuba diving, and spending time in the gym. I have an interest in foreign languages and international travel, and am a self-proclaimed foodie. Spending quality time with my family and friends, in addition to these activities, helps create a balance to better serve my patients.
