Welcome to my Web page. I'm happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my practice. I enjoy working at Kaiser Permanente because of my wonderful colleagues and patients, and I look forward to working with you to care for your health.
I was born in South Vietnam, in a beautiful small city called Dalat. After graduating high school, I decided to become a doctor, in part because of my country did not have enough physicians to care for poor people, and also because I witnessed casualties during the Vietnam war. I graduated from the University of Saigon in South Vietnam in 1978, did a residency in dermatology, and worked there as a dermatologist until our family immigrated to the United States in 1990 under the sponsor of the Humanitarian Organization (HO). Restarting a new life here was really challenging, but fortunately with all the effort and time spent studying and working at the same time, I successfully completed my second residency in 1996 from San Bernardino County Medical Center in California (very well-known and the second-largest training program in the United States). After practicing and teaching family medicine, dermatology, emergency medicine, and acupuncture for 10 years at the county hospital, I then joined Kaiser Permanente.
Having a career in family medicine is a very special opportunity to connect and help people (from the newborn to adult population), not only by utilizing medical skills and knowledge, but also by listening and responding to what patients need. It's a privilege to help you understand more about your health, facilitate getting the appropriate evaluation for you, and communicating with you and your family. I feel that healthy living and preventive care are the best ways to stay healthy, but I am also here to help you when you are sick. I want to be a partner in your health care, and it helps me better care for you when you are actively involved in taking care of your health. I feel honored that patients have entrusted me with their care, and strive to treat them as I would my own family.
I firmly believe in Kaiser Permanente's philosophy of "total health," and I try to live with it in my life every day. Taking care of my family is my major priority, as is keeping balance in my life. I'm a runner and a road biker; I practice martial arts and Tai Chi, and enjoy all outdoor activities. I also make it a priority to set aside time to just relax and or read, especially medical journals.
