Welcome to my Web page. My name is Dr. Hla Hla Kyi. One of my primary goals is to help my patients and their families become informed about their health and well-being. I hope this Web page makes it easier to learn about your health care.
I was born and raised in Myanmar (formally known as Burma). I earned my medical degree from the Institute of Medicine in Yangon (Rangoon). My father was a dentist who was fascinated with medicine. He encouraged me to love science and medicine from the time I was young. During my training, I explored many specialties of medicine, but I fell in love with taking care of children. In pediatrics, because our patients are young, I feel it is an opportunity for me to have the greatest impact on a person’s life. I completed my pediatric internship at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, Bronx, New York, followed by pediatric residency in 1994 at Kaiser Permanente’s Los Angeles Medical Center. I was very impressed with the comprehensive care that Kaiser Permanente offers. I joined soon after finishing my training. I worked at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana from 1994 until 2006, and subsequently transferred to Kaiser Permanente in San Dimas to be closer to my family.
I believe it’s very important to listen to the patients I treat and their families in order to understand their concerns and to respect their opinions. My love of pediatrics grows with day-to-day interactions with my patients and their families. I work with an excellent team here at San Dimas and Baldwin Park. We all work as a team, and its fun to be part of this group. I feel honored to be a part of your child’s health care.
All the smiles and hugs I receive from the children help to keep me looking forward to my day. Sharing the joy and worries with my patients and their families helps me to be a better physician. The opportunity to watch them mature and grow is indeed a privilege, one that I have enjoyed the most. I believe in healthy eating and regular exercise. When I am stressed, I do yoga. I love working out on the elliptical machine, reading, and watching movies. I enjoy traveling as well.
