Where I practice
Welcome to my Web page. I am happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my practice. I feel very fortunate to work at Kaiser Permanente because of my wonderful colleagues and patients, and I look forward to assisting in your health care.
I was born in Kiev, capital of Ukraine. I wanted to be a physician from the time I was in the fifth grade, and after high school I decided to go to medical school. I knew that I wanted to be able to make a real difference in people's lives, and practicing medicine gives me that opportunity. I graduated from one of the best medical schools in Russia at age 23. A few years later, my family and I immigrated to the United States. During my residency in Los Angeles, I fell in love with the city and decided to live here. I have many friends and enjoy their company. I love to exercise and bike regularly on the beach and in the beautiful mountains of Santa Monica. When I do travel, I try to visit national parks and cities with rich cultural traditions.
About my practice
I do not think I can describe my field better than Sir William Osler did: "As is our pathology, so is our practice...what the pathologist thinks today, the physician does tomorrow." Nearly every physician relies on laboratory tests or tissue examination to make a definitive diagnosis. In most cases, a pathologist oversees the performance of those tests or is directly involved with the diagnosis. We pathologists work behind the scenes, making important interpretations and diagnoses that significantly affect patient care.
How I thrive
I firmly believe in Kaiser Permanente's philosophy of total health, which considers all aspects of a person's state of being - body, mind, and spirit. My family life is my major priority outside of work. I also love to exercise, and I bike and hike regularly on the beach and in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains. In addition, I make it a priority to set aside time to attend a classical music concert or read a good novel.
