About me
Welcome! I hope my Web page helps you get to know me a little better.
Biography
I grew up in Pasadena, California, as the second of four boys in my family. My parents were very supportive in my school and other activities, such as swim team, water polo, and scouting. We went camping every summer, where I gained a love of the outdoors. By the time I was 15 years old, I knew I wanted to be a doctor. I attended Brigham Young University, where I met my wife, played water polo, and learned to ski the deep powder at Alta and Snowbird. My wife and I are very proud of our three daughters and one son. Having a severely handicapped daughter taught us a lot about compassion, patience, and unconditional love. Sadly she passed away in 2014 at 32 years old. We enjoy being grandparents to a grandson and two granddaughters. I enjoyed being a clinical instructor at the UC San Diego's Department of Ophthalmology from 1992 to 2005, helping to teach eye surgery to the surgeons in training there. From 2005 to 2011, I served as chief of our Department of Ophthalmology in San Diego.
About my practice
I’ve provided medical and surgical eye care for our members in the North County area of San Diego since 1988. Many of us in the Department Ophthalmology in the Vista Medical Offices have worked together for most or all of that time. We enjoy working together and take pride in providing high-quality and personalized eye care to the members in our area. There’s nothing like sharing the excitement of someone who, after surgery, can see well for the first time in years!
How I thrive
The demands of a busy practice are constant, but I enjoy things outside of medicine. I've photographed everything from sunrises on mountaintops to sunsets in Hawaii and, of course, have lots of images of my kids and grandkids. In the past, I logged thousands of miles running, but more recently, I swim laps in the pool and work out at the gym so I can stay fit and able to make my ski trips each winter. My adventures have included cliff jumping at Havasupai in the Grand Canyon, tandem paragliding off Torrey Pines, and annual ski trips to Mammoth and Utah with friends. At home, I enjoy working in our rose and vegetable garden and helping with youth groups at my church.
