Where I practice
Hello! My nickname is Alex, and I am thrilled to join the Kaiser Permanente family! I am an adult neurologist with subspecialty training in epilepsy, and it is my top priority to provide our community with high-quality neurological care.
I spent most of my formative years learning English as a second language, helping care for my elderly and ailing paternal grandparents and family, and making ends meet. Notwithstanding, as a first-generation Mexican American, I knew the sacrifices my family had made for me to obtain a good education, and at the age of 14, I set a goal to be valedictorian of my high school graduating class and attend Harvard University as an undergraduate. In 2004, I graduated at the top of my high school class and was given a full scholarship to Harvard University. As an undergraduate, I developed a love for both the social and applied sciences. After graduating from Harvard in 2008, I spent the next 2 years completing a postbaccalaureate degree at UCLA, and in 2010 I was admitted to the Keck School of Medicine at USC. Whilst completing my doctorate of medicine degree, I became fascinated with the field of neurology and the subspecialties of epilepsy and neurophysiology. After graduating from medical school in 2014, I completed my adult neurology residency training at Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center, and in 2018 I went on to complete the UC Davis Department of Neurology Epilepsy Fellowship Program. Today, I am ecstatic to join the Kaiser Permanente family in Bakersfield!
About my practice
I believe that providing high-quality health care to our members takes a "village," so to speak, and it is my personal belief that we are best able to provide this care when we collaborate with members as part of a multidisciplinary team. I am members' partner in health and always strive to provide them with the resources to lead healthier lives.
How I thrive
As a physician, I thrive when I help restore health to members. Outside of the practice of medicine, I prosper intellectually by keeping pace with the latest discoveries in medicine, physically when I hit the weight room at the gym, and emotionally when I spend time with my loved ones.
