Welcome to my Web page. I'm glad to have the opportunity to present my credentials and provide information about my practice.
I was born in Bucharest, Romania. My family and I escaped to the West when Romania was still a Communist dictatorship. We came to the United States and I became a U.S. citizen in 1978. I completed my undergraduate studies at UCLA. Then I went to France and studied medicine at the University of Paris. I had wanted to become a physician since my teenage years due to curiosity about how the human body functions and a desire to be of service to others. I completed my medical studies in 1990 then returned to the States, where I became interested in psychiatry, fascinated by the complexities of the human mind. I graduated from the UCLA-San Fernando Valley Psychiatry Residency Training Program in 1997 then completed a fellowship in neurobehavior at UCLA. I had a chance to study in depth the neurobiological basis of human emotion and behavior, brain localization and neural pathways underlying mood and cognition, as well as diagnosis and treatment of various types of dementia.
I perform thorough evaluations of my psychiatric patients and document my findings meticulously. I give patients the time to express their concerns, listening attentively and empathically. I discuss treatment options, including advantages, disadvantages, risks, and potential side effects. I make comprehensive treatment plans, including medications, psychotherapy, self-help measures, lab work, testing, and referrals. I usually return patients' phone calls the same day. I see about 10 to 12 patients per day, five days per week. The usual visit time for new patients is one hour and for follow-up patients is 30 minutes. I stay current with psychiatric literature and apply current findings in my practice. It is my greatest joy to see patients improve and do well.
I like to bicycle for one or two hours each weekend. I swim and occasionally hike. I like to travel and experience different cultures and admire art and architecture. I am very interested in history and politics. I attend church regularly and sing in the choir. I enjoy time spent with my family (wife and daughter). I like to read, listen to classical music, and watch old movies.
