About Me

I grew up in New Mexico, and I received my medical degree and residency training at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. I chose this institution because of its strong problem-based curriculum, clinical skills training, and commitment to cultural diversity. After completing residency, I worked as an assistant professor of medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and was the director of the third- and fourth-year medical student Internal Medicine Clerkship. I also directed the Internal Medicine Residency Core Lecture Series and chaired the Hospitalist Residency Education Committee. As I have matured as a physician so too has my commitment to the medical profession. I believe that being an exceptional physician is not only about delivering high quality patient care but also about improving the health care system in which we operate. My goal is to work to improve the lives of my individual patients and also improve the delivery of health care as a whole.

About my practice

I primarily work as a staff hospitalist at Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center, but I also work as a clinical instructor at Kaiser Westside Medical Center. In addition, I am the clinical lead for the Kaiser Permanente Northwest Regional Sepsis Quality Improvement Initiative, which aims to save thousands of lives each year by improving the treatment of patients who have sepsis. In my practice, I follow the principles of evidence-based medicine and the team-based approach to patient care. I believe that no individual stands alone in hospital-based medical care and that patients benefit the most from patient-centered multidisciplinary care. I treat all varieties of adult internal-medicine-related issues, maintain a strong commitment to preventive and primary care, and promote patient education through the evidence-based teach-back methodology. I have great confidence in our specialty physicians at Kaiser Permanente; we are all accountable to keep up-to-date with the latest evidence-based guidelines.

How I thrive

I believe strongly in work-life balance, and I have a commitment to wellness through physical activity, healthy diet and lifestyle choices, and spiritual growth. I maintain balance in my life through music, exercise, meditation, hiking, mountaineering, surfing, and adventuring. I enjoy traveling and connecting with people around the world.
