About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I’m happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my practice. I have practiced family medicine for more than 20 years at our Fontana Medical Center. I feel very fortunate to work at Kaiser Permanente because of my wonderful colleagues and patients, and I look forward to working with you to care for your health.

Biography

I have been interested in health and fitness since I was an athlete in my youth. I decided to become a physician after serving as a Special Forces medic in the U.S. Army in the 1960s. I completed my medical school training at UCLA, did a residency in family medicine at San Bernardino County Medical Center, served as a medical officer in the Army, then returned to my residency program to serve on the faculty. I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 1989. I have served as an assistant clinical professor of family and community medicine at UC San Francisco and an assistant clinical professor of family medicine at UC Irvine, and have served on the faculty of family medicine residency programs at Fort Ord, near Monterey, and the San Bernardino County Medical Center. My wife is also a family physician in academic practice. I highly value the roles of self-care, exercise, nutrition, and information technology in optimizing the care experience of my patients.

About my practice

I feel that healthy living and preventive care are the best ways to stay healthy, but I’m also here to help you when you are sick. I want to be your partner in health, and it helps me better care for you when you are already taking good care of yourself. I see myself as primarily a communicator—I want to hear what you are thinking, consider your concerns, and communicate back my impressions and suggestions to you.

How I thrive

My family life is my major priority. I coached both my sons’ baseball teams for 10 years and watched them play through college. Now my wife and I enjoy working out together at the gym, playing golf, ballroom dancing, and quiet family time at home. My schedule is hectic, so I keep some dumbbells, elastic bands, and an air mattress in my office. This way I can sneak in a few minutes of exercise on some days during lunch.
