About Me

I was born and raised in Southern California. After graduating from high school, I briefly lived on Oahu with friends. That experience left me with a lasting love of the islands, and I knew that one day I’d be back. I went on to earn my Bachelor of Science at California Polytechnic University in Pomona, and my Doctor of Optometry at Interamerican University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry in San Juan.

When I was growing up, my parents were wonderful role models and a strong influence in my life. My mother’s perseverance and determination to achieve her goals, and my father’s strong work ethic, have helped to make me what I am today.

About my practice

Early on in life, I discovered that I truly enjoyed one-on-one interaction. A career as a medical provider, I realized, would allow me to have these experiences and at the same time contribute to people’s quality of life. My inspiration to pursue optometry came from a fabulous optometrist who made a big impression on me in my childhood. It’s extremely gratifying to be in a position to improve someone’s vision, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to help others in this way.

To keep up-to-date with the latest developments in my field, I attend professional optometry conferences, read the journals released by optometry organizations, and consult with colleagues.

I had previously worked at Kaiser Permanente in the Southern California region, and I was therefore familiar with the collegial, supportive climate in this organization and its overall mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality patient care. When the time was right for my family to make a move, the islands were calling, and I knew that Hawaii Permanente Medical Group was the place I wanted to be.

I believe in giving patients my full attention, listening closely to their concerns, and reassuring them that their well-being is my highest priority. I want them to feel comfortable taking whatever time is necessary to ask their questions and understand my answers. The wide age range among those I see in my practice mirrors the ages of the people in my immediate and extended families. This reminds me to treat each of my patients as I’d want my family members to be treated.

How I thrive

To stay physically healthy and fit, I go surfing and bodyboarding. For my mind and mood, I balance spiritual pursuits, recreation, quality time with family and friends, and community service with the Girl Scouts of America. In addition, traveling and experiencing different cultures broadens my perspectives on life.
