About Me

I was born and raised in Honolulu and attended Roosevelt High School. My parents gave me wonderful opportunities to experience martial arts, band, classical piano, sports, and Scouting. They wanted me to be an all-around person, and develop a practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, painting, and general home repair in addition to high academic goals. They encouraged me to always do my best and to care for others, and inspired me to achieve the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts. In Boy Scouts, I was the "first aid guy" in my patrol in district competitions. Providing the right care for others was important to me from the start.

About my practice

In elementary school, I had two eye injuries that nearly cost me my sight in one eye. I found that the gift of sight is irreplaceable. This, and the fact that my favorite subjects in high school and college were mathematics and physics, inspired me to pursue a career in optometry. My colleagues at the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group support me with their expertise in providing high quality care for our patients. I do thorough eye examinations and discuss with patients the ocular opportunities (eyeglasses and/or contact lenses) that would best meet their visual needs at work and at play. I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), and currently serve as vice-president of the Aloha Chapter. I am a member of the American Optometric Association and the Hawaii Optometric Association. In addition to reading medical journals, I usually attend three research meetings a year to stay current with the latest developments in eye technology.

How I thrive

In my free time, I enjoy volunteering in my community. I am currently the council commissioner and a member of the executive board for the Aloha Council, Boy Scouts of America. I attend Scouting functions for the Hawaiian Islands, Western Region, and National levels. It is my way of giving back to the amazing adults who supported me in achieving my Eagle Scout rank when I was a youth. In my younger days, I did a lot of competitive basketball, volleyball, and tennis. I now golf, downhill ski, and hike for exercise and also enjoy traveling to the Mainland and international destinations.
