About Me

Hello! My name is Dr. Abhay Risbud, and I am a specialist practicing hematology/oncology. Thank you for taking the time to visit my Web page. I recognize that if you are visiting this page, it’s because either you or one of your loved ones is most likely facing a serious diagnosis. I want to assure you that my staff and I are committed to treating our patients with the utmost compassion in our efforts to getting them back on their feet.

Biography

I was born in India and began my medical training in Bombay, following in the footsteps of my older siblings. I came to the United States in 1988, went to medical school in Chicago, and then did my hematology/oncology training at UC Irvine. It was there I learned about Kaiser Permanente and decided that was where I wanted to work. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to symphony music, and traveling. I plan to take my family all over the world so that we may learn from all the different cultures.

About my practice

Because I primarily work with cancer patients, I often get asked, “Do you like what you do?” or “Isn’t that challenging emotionally?” My answer is always the same: Someone needs to care for these patients, and if I have passion for it—which I do—and the ability to do to it compassionately, I should not be doing anything else. It is difficult for us when we lose patients. But we celebrate the time they do have, and we celebrate the many, many patients who survive.

How I thrive

I believe strongly in the power of positivity, whether that is positive thinking or just humor. Believe it or not, a sense of humor is very important in our practice, so we laugh a lot!
