About Me

I was born and raised in the hill towns of western Massachusetts, the type of place where neighbors look out for each other and where wildlife and livestock on occasion wander through your back yard. I attended Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and did my residency at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. My husband's medical training at Tripler Army Medical Center brought us to Hawaii, and we are grateful to now call this beautiful place home. My husband is my best friend and provides constant encouragement to experience all the joys of life.

About my practice

Among the things I love about medicine are the constant infusion of fresh knowledge, the responsibility of communicating clearly with my patients, the opportunities to exchange experience and wisdom with colleagues, and the challenge of training the next generation of providers. In addition to English I speak Spanish, as well as conversational French and enjoy picking up the local nuances in speech when moving to a new place. My combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics training offered me valuable insight into the continuum of the human experience - from celebrating in the birth of a child to comforting those in the final chapter of their life’s story. My professional affiliations include membership in the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association. In addition to independently reviewing the medical literature, I find the exchange of ideas among colleagues and specialties to be crucial to remaining current with on-going medical research. In the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group I found physicians who were down-to-earth, gracious, approachable, and passionate about providing excellent care. It is my belief that the hospitalist should always work as a member of a team composed of the patient and the patient’s family, nursing colleagues, support staff, and primary and subspecialty providers. The physician must also be willing to see patients in the context of their lives and culture, and to support them in their particular goals, values and beliefs. Whether bringing a smile into a room, laughing at a joke, listening to a child’s excitement over a discovery, or talking story of lives well-lived, I seek to share joy with my patients.

How I thrive

My husband and I love running, hiking, tennis, biking, swimming, paddle boarding and just about any new adventure. We dabble in vegetable gardening, have joined a Community Supported Agriculture group, and enjoy creating new and nutritious meals. Prayer, study, and being part of a spiritual community also bring balance and perspective to our lives.
