About Me

I was born and grew up in a small town in West Virginia. My dad was attracted to West Virginia, I think, because it reminded him of the countryside near his birthplace in Vienna, Austria. When I was young, he and I used to wander the countryside, finding special places that we would return to over the years. One of my favorite activities to this day is hiking and finding a hidden waterfall or view. Growing up in West Virginia also gave me an appreciation of wild places, which influences my outlook today. My husband and teenage twins love to share vacations where we can have an outdoor adventure. A dog and two cats are also part of our family.

About my practice

I have been practicing general pediatrics with Kaiser Permanente for over 20 years. I have had the blessing of watching several of my patients grow up and bring me their babies as patients. I particularly like helping new parents find their way in what is sometimes a bewildering new role for them, especially since family is not always close.I chose pediatrics because it is a time of life when you can make a difference by helping a child make good choices about his or her health. It is an honor to be a part of the joys and sorrows of growing up for so many children.I enjoy the supportive environment of Kaiser Permanente. I have served as an area chief of pediatrics and as an elected member of the board of directors. I am currently the lead physician for our group of pediatricians at Crescent Medical Center. Practicing with Kaiser Permanente allows me to have cutting edge information about treatments and procedures. I also have access to the advice and counsel of other talented and dedicated pediatricians in our group. I truly believe in our model of health care. We are able to coordinate our care so that your child receives the right care at the right time.

How I thrive

I think maintaining an active lifestyle is essential to my well-being. I generally enjoy outdoor activities including walking, hiking, bicycling, snow skiing and gardening. Gardening is relaxing and good for my spirit, as well. I am an avid reader and always have a stack of books that I am reading or plan to read. I find audiobooks to be a good way to pass the time during my commute.Recently, my daughter and I have taken up yoga. This has been an enlightening experience for me as it teaches you to let go of your rushing daily thoughts and breathe. It is great exercise and helps one maintain flexibility.
