Standard Hospital Charges in Oregon
As of January 1, 2019, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires hospitals to publish pricing information online. Kaiser Permanente is committed to maintaining this transparency by sharing the most up-to-date pricing information available.
Hospitals may provide patients with a list of medical descriptions and prices known as a charge master list. Each hospital has its own charge master list that is used for billing purposes. These lists are not the negotiated price between hospitals and insurers and are not the price that most patients would be expected to pay for care.
Note: The prices on the charge master list are not the actual payment rates that hospitals receive, and charge master list prices are almost never the actual amount a patient is responsible for paying.
Each medical procedure is made up of numerous charges, and the charge master lists shouldn’t be used to estimate the final patient cost of a given hospital visit. If you want an accurate estimate of your patient responsibility, please contact your insurance carrier.
During a hospital visit, you may receive services, medications, or be furnished with certain medical supplies or devices. These charges are the same for all patients, regardless of insurance coverage; however, the charges appearing in each document do not reflect any adjustments that may be made based on your insurance program or coverage. The amount you are required to pay will vary because of reimbursement rates negotiated by:
- Health plans
- Other payers
- Your specific plan details
For some services, there may not be a standard price available. If you need more information on a service that is not found on the list below, contact your insurance carrier for additional guidance.
