Where I practice
I was raised all over the United States. Until I ended up in Oregon in the early 90s, I had spent most of my life and early nursing career in Texas. But I've lived in California, South Dakota, Michigan, Central Texas, Arizona, West Texas, Maryland, Wyoming and New Mexico. I love the variety of cultures to be found in our country and how we all manage to live together. Nursing arrived on me by accident when I failed out of engineering school. That being said, I've loved nursing. It's been a great career and let me meet a host of fascinating people.
About my practice
I work full time as an Urgent Care provider and doing cross coverage for the Internal Medicine Department at the Rockwood Medical Office. I do minor procedures in the clinic including incision and drainage, skin biopsies, joint injections and toenail removal. I like to arrive at a solution to my patient's problems in a single visit. That doesn't always work out, but I try to take care of business right there and then. I like taking care of people who have "broken their toy". My philosophy is that your body should be taken out daily and played with and eventually the toy used every day gets some wear and tear. This is life. My approach to care is that everyone has a story to tell. I try to be a good listener.
How I thrive
I spend my leisure time mostly out of doors. I fish, hunt, climb, hike, backpack, paddle, run and explore. I love spending time in new and different places, meeting people with different ideas and seeing things I've never seen before. For me exercise has to be a daily thing like brushing my teeth. If I don't exercise every day I tend to get depressed and moody, so daily exercise is important to me.
