Originally from the southeast I did most of my education and training in North Carolina. I attended the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill for undergraduate studies, Montana State for graduate school in Microbiology, and the University of Louisville School of Medicine to obtain my medical degree. I completed my residency in Family Medicine at Moses H Cone Memorial hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina and went on to do a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. When my wife and I started traveling to practice medicine so we would have more time to spend with our kids on their school breaks we landed in Portland, Oregon in 2009. We quickly fell in love with the Northwest and have been coming back ever since. I became part of the Kaiser Permanente full time staff in 2012.
My true passion is musculoskeletal medicine. Whether it's a sprained ankle or painful shoulder I enjoy helping patients return to their highest level of activity. I have worked extensively with athlete's at every level, but cherish equally the opportunity to work with those who suffer from everyday aches and pains. I especially enjoy working with amateur athletes in reaching their goals through nutrition, training, and recovery. I recommend patients do something active everyday!
I thrive by spending quality time with my family and getting outside as much as possible. The practice of primary care applies to all of us and involves striking a balance between work, friends, family, and physical activity. I have been an endurance athlete for as long as I can remember and recently completed my first Ironman triathlon. While I love almost any sporting activity, these days I try to find time to enjoy snowboarding, hiking, fishing, surfing, mountain biking, and photography.
