Where I practice
I feel privileged to have worked for Kaiser Northwest for more than 25 years. It has been a fulfilling career , which has also provided time to raise two sons who are now on their own adventures. Since my duties at home are less, I have been able to embrace my passion of working in pediatrics. I was born in Oregon on a cattle ranch and spent my childhood in Southern California, playing in the waves of Malibu. Upon graduating from high school in Santa Monica, I came back to Oregon to go to Lewis and Clark College and get a BA in English. After travelling overseas I realized the importance of providing quality health care. I went to Columbia University in New York City for my BS in Nursing and the University of Washington for a Masters in Nursing as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. When I married, I moved back to Portland and have been here for 30 years. My hobbies are hiking, exploring new trails, biking, reading (I’m in two book clubs), singing in a chorus and travelling to new places. I love adventures and learning, and the field of pediatrics keeps me curious and a little younger.
About my practice
I started working with Kaiser Permanente as a paneling provider. Over the years I have been doing more cross coverage and helping in various clinics in the Portland and Salem areas. I started initially in the Rockwood Medical Office and now I am back as a cross-covering PNP in Pediatrics. I enjoy working with adolescents. I have had special training for helping breastfeeding mothers and babies. All ages have their own challenges and joys.
How I thrive
Exercise is an important part of my day. Every day before work I swim. It brings peace to the rest of the day and I can give more to my patients and fellow workers. Every Saturday I go running with a friend who I have been running with for 22 years. When the flowers are out we go hiking and try to get 10,000 steps as often as possible. My husband and I hike, garden, and hunt for edible mushrooms together. Occasionally when the mood hits we play duets on the piano and I sing in a community chorus. I volunteer with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization and have a little sister to share in more adventures.
