Where I practice
I was born and raised in Wisconsin. After completing Medical School and Surgery Residency at Loma Linda University, I spent 11 years teaching medical students and residents. In 1997, I moved to Salem, Oregon and fell in love with this wonderful town. I have had the privilege to be a Kaiser Permanente Surgeon ever since. I knew I wanted to be a surgeon during my medical school surgery rotation when I met my favorite mentor surgeon. The passion to create the highest quality of care for patients was ignited. As I now mentor junior surgeons, I am stimulated to pass on this passion and expertise.
About my practice
We have a fantastic group of Kaiser Permanente surgeons in Salem. Being the senior member of our group, I have the privilege of mentoring junior surgeons. I enjoy every part of my practice from meeting and getting to know a member and their family at the consultation to the surgery itself, and after. Surgery is a trusting experience for the member, I try to get to know each member at the first meeting. I believe comfort, empathy, and laughter help as members get ready for surgery. I do a wide variety of surgery including removing Breast Cancer, Colon Cancer, Advanced Laparoscopy, Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery, and general surgery. I hope to expand into Robotic Surgery.
How I thrive
My greatest source of joy is family, starting with my wife Kelli. She is an actor at our community theatre. We have 2 grown children who bring us joy. We watch every Green Bay Packers game, sometimes even in person. I enjoy exercise, organic food, fiber and scuba vacations with my family. My wife, and I give continuing education courses for medical and dental professionals. As part the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons, I am thrilled to lead the Chapter Partner Program which will link US state Chapters with International Chapters to bring the World together to be the best surgeons we can be.
