Yes, I’m accepting new patients.
I am a native of Portland, Oregon. I have been in the field of addiction education and treatment for the past 30 years. The reasons I chose this field are many, not the least of which was a therapist I deeply admired who was an inspiration to me. I have spent my career working in both the public and private sectors. I have experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, community and workplace education, and have held management roles in outpatient and acute care settings. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Oregon University and Master of Health Care Administration from Bellvue University. I hold a certification in addiction counseling in Oregon and a state certification for addiction counseling in Washington.
My present role is hospital consultant/liaison for the Addiction Medicine Department. I work with primary care teams in the inpatient medical and psychiatric setting for both adults and adolescents. I have additional responsibilities in the clinic on the East Interstate campus where I provide direct case management and therapy groups. I believe in an integrated, holistic approach to service delivery and the importance of approaching care from the patient's perspective. I employ stages of change, motivational approaches, and cognitive/behavioral approaches in my work, and I enjoy opportunities to engage in family systems work.
I'm the type of person who always has to have a project - so declares my wife. I enjoy "hands-on" activities. Mostly I enjoy woodworking, landscape projects, old Chevrolets (the '60s are my era), walking, hiking, and running. I volunteer in the self-help community and hold two volunteer positions that add great meaning to my life. I am a proud grandfather and enjoy being available to help my daughter and son-in-law remodel their old home.
